L’\u00eele d’Henderson est une \u00eele inhabit\u00e9e<\/strong> situ\u00e9e dans le sud de l’oc\u00e9an Pacifique. Une analyse de 2015 (publi\u00e9e en 2017) a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 qu\u2019en Polyn\u00e9sie du Sud, sur l\u2019une des quatre \u00eeles de l\u2019archipel de Pitcairn, Henderson, il y a plus de 18 tonnes de plastique sur ses plages : \u00ab la plus forte densit\u00e9 de d\u00e9bris plastiques jamais enregistr\u00e9e dans le monde \u00bb.<\/p>\n

L’\u00eele de 38 km\u00b2 compte plus de >38 millions de morceaux de plastique sur ses c\u00f4tes. Les estimations conservatrices sugg\u00e8rent que 3 500 \u00e0 13 500 nouveaux articles en plastique s’\u00e9chouent sur Henderson chaque jour.<\/p>\n

En 2019, une exp\u00e9dition a tent\u00e9 de nettoyer ce sanctuaire isol\u00e9. 6 tonnes de d\u00e9chets ont \u00e9t\u00e9 collect\u00e9es sur la plage situ\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019Est de l\u2019\u00eele. Le d\u00e9fi majeur pour collecter les d\u00e9chets sur l’\u00eele Henderson est de traverser le r\u00e9cif corallien Une \u00e9tape difficile \u00e0 cause des conditions m\u00e9t\u00e9orologiques d\u00e9favorables.
